Enrolments

Overview

Kindergarten is an early childhood education program delivered by qualified early childhood educators, with the aim of supporting children to develop the skills tneeded for life (not only school!). GEKA offer both 3 year old and 4 year old kindergarten programs at all of our kindergartens, and mixed aged group kindergarten programs at several of our kindergartens.

Prior to enrolment, we strongly encourage families to view one of our GEKA Kindergartens.

The Kindergarten Tour is an invaluable experience which will enable you and your child to view our flexible play based programs, explore the kindergarten environment and ask questions.

To view our kindergartens tour dates and booking form please visit our tours page or take a virtual tour with 360 degree views of our indoor and outdoor spaces.

REGISTER FOR A KINDERGARTEN PLACE

GEKA kindergartens participate in a Central Enrolment system with several councils. The enrolment process varies depending on which municipality the kindergarten is located in. To view our enrolment information please visit our pages 3 year old enrolment page and 4 year old enrolment page.

IMMUNISATION

Your child must be vaccinated and their immunisations recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register to attend kindergarten. To learn more, visit this link Childhood Immunisation

When should my child attend kindergarten?

If you are unsure about the best time for your child to start a kindergarten program, ask GEKA’s Inclusion Support Coordinator for advice. Find out how the kindergarten program can support your child. You can also attend a tour of the kindergarten that your child is likely to attend. As well, you can talk with your child’s Maternal and Child Health nurse, family doctor and any other professionals your child sees (for example, Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist or Paediatrician).

Victorian State Government Policy states that a child is entitled to funding for ONE year of a 4 year old kindergarten experience ONLY.  When applying for kindergarten, parents need to carefully consider the age of their child and whether he/she will be ready for the demands of kindergarten.

Families with children born between 1 January and 30 April have a choice about whether their child will commence school in the year they turn five or the following year, and therefore whether they commence 4 year old kindergarten in the year they turn four or the year they turn five. We advise families to enrol their child into 4YO kindergarten the year prior to starting school, so the transition between both learning environments can be as smooth as possible.
